Suffering the unexpected death of one's child is a devastating loss. Texas readers may relate to one father's deep sorrow involving not one, but two of his children. Although nothing can be done to replace his loss, he is determined to fight for changes in child custody laws that he believes are necessary to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
The particular situation in which this man is involved is rather complicated. It all began when he entered a relationship with a woman some years ago. They never married, but had three children together.
At some point, the relationship ended. The parents fought over custody, which was reportedly awarded to the man in a Michigan court in 2014. After that court order was issued, the woman allegedly took her children to another state without the father's permission. Sadly, she was involved in a horrific car accident that took the lives of two of the three children. She has been criminally charged for intoxicated manslaughter.
The man, who was obviously devastated by the loss of his two sons, said their mother never should have been allowed to take them to another state while child custody proceedings remained ongoing. He said he plans to fight for changes in the law so no other parent ever has to experience the suffering he has endured. If a parent in Texas is concerned about another parent taking a child out of the state, consultation may be sought through a family law attorney to seek clarification of existing laws and various options that may be available to prevent problems from arising.
