Complex divorce: Ex-Mrs. Jason Flom reported to live in poverty

High net worth couples in Texas who are considering divorce may want to explore all their options before deciding to go the route of litigation. It is not uncommon for a complex divorce case to continue for years before a final settlement is reached. The former wife of Jason Flom — the founder of Lava Records — is reported to be suffering the consequences of such an ongoing divorce case.

Reportedly, the couple’s divorce battle lasted for six years and ended a year ago. However, the ex-wife is still waiting for the final divorce settlement decision. In the meantime, she claims to be unable to maintain payments on her apartment, parking garage and other obligations. A personal friend of Wendy Flom said she can hardly afford to buy groceries.

It is further reported that Jason Flom owns a trust worth $13 million and that he purchased a Bentley not long ago and travels in a private jet. However, he has allegedly cut his former wife off from all access to any funds. The couple has two children — a 21-year-old daughter and a 16-year-old son — and it is said that their mother receives no child support.

While litigation is the only way in which some divorce cases can be navigated, couples may settle some of the issues through mediation. This process can save a significant amount of time and money. With the guidance of each spouse’s attorney and a qualified divorce mediator, agreements may be reached that will provide both spouses and their children acceptable living standards while the court contemplates the issues that cannot be resolved through mediation. An experienced Texas divorce attorney can explain the available options that may ease the process of a complex divorce.
